Battell Chapel Elm

These bowls and pens were handcrafted from an Elm (Ulmus rubra) that grew at the corner of Elm Street and College Street in front of Battell Chapel on the Old Campus.  The 40 year old Elm tree, which is the namesake of Elm City and the street upon which it grew, died in 2011 and the trunk was removed by the city in July 2012.  A view of the dead tree still standing in front of Battell is evident in the second picture taken before the tree was removed.
