Several maple trees along Prospect Street were removed in 2012. They grew across from Becton next to the stone wall of the Grove Street Cemetery, where Noah Webster is buried. These trees grew across from the School of Engineering and its newly created Center for Engineering Innovation and Design. They were removed as part of landscaping in preparation for the two new Colleges. The spalting in this wood is spectacular. Some of the best I have ever seen. The result is some particularly stunning bowls.
