Product Description

This  natural edge bowl was handcrafted from the Lincoln Oak that made national news in 2012.  This tree was planted in 1909 near the center of the New Haven Green to commemorate the 100th anniversary of Abraham Lincoln's birth.  The strong winds of Hurricane Sandy toppled the massive 103 year old tree on October 29, 2012.  Tangled in the tree's roots (underneath the white tent in photograph) was the skeleton of a woman buried during the colonial period.  This provided a reminder that the area surrounding the Three Churches on the Green was previously used as a cemetery.  This natural edge bowl has a partial bark edge and is 8 13/4" in diameter and 3 3/4" high.  It is #44 of 85 bowls that will be turned from this tree.
