Trees of Science Hill
These pens and bowls were hand-turned from a variety of trees grown around Science Hill. These include one of four massive oak trees that were in front of the Gibbs building on Science Hill. The trees were removed in 2016 to clear the way for the demolition of Gibbs and the construction of the new science building that is now built in its footprint. The trees were at least 60 years old. They were among the largest trees on campus.
This pen was made from a burled sugar maple tree that stood next to the Peabody Museum on Science Hill. The tree was removed as renovations to Science Hill began in 2015. These pens feature beautiful figuration of grain patterns and colors.
Also contains a designer pen box and a card describing the history of the tree and its location.

This European pen was handcrafted from a 40 year old sugar maple tree (Acer saccharum) that grew along Whitney Avenue on Science Hill near the Gibbs, Kline and Bass buildings. The tree had died and was partially decayed but was still standing until August 22, 2010 when it fell onto the sidewalk during a moderate wind storm. Fortunately, no one was under the tree when it came down.
This pen also comes with a designer box and a card describing the history of the tree on campus.
