This bowl was handcrafted from an elm tree that grew in the Branford Courtyard. The tree was present from the opening of the college, as the college was literally built around it. A swing was later bolted to one of the tree’s lower limbs, and it became affectionately known across the university as the Branford Swing Tree.
The tree began showing signs of its age and, sadly, was removed in December 2025.
